Biography

Nicandro Figueiredo is a spinal neurosurgeon from Brazil, fully dedicated to this field since the last 17 years, currently working at Medcare Orthopedic and Spine Hospital (MOSH), in Dubai (UAE). Studied at University of Brasilia (UnB), considered one of the best medical colleges in Brazil (1987-1993), and followed by Residency in Neurosurgery in Brasilia (Base Hospital of Brasilia - 1993-1997) and later on taking up teaching and research activities after obtaining Masters and PhD from the University of Brasilia, Brazil. Dr. Nicandro was selected for International Fellowship-training in Spinal Surgery in USA (1999-2000), at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, and at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and Post-doctoral Research Fellow in Spinal Surgery in USA at the University of Wisconsin (2011-2012). After training in neurosurgery followed by training in spinal surgery, he is currently a visiting Professor of Neurosurgery and Spinal Surgery in Brazil, and was Honorary Research Fellow in the Department of Neurosurgery (USA) until March 2015 and worked as a Consultant Spinal Neurosurgeon for 2 years in Riyadh, KSA, at Dr Sulaiman Al Habib Hospital. Currently he is board certified as a Neurosurgeon in Brazil, as a Consultant Neuro-Spinal Surgeon (MOH-UAE and Saudi Council-KSA), and as a Specialist Spinal Neurosurgeon (DHA-UAE) in Dubai. Besides, being a member of many relevant medical societies, like: North American Spine Society (NASS - USA), AO SPINE Society (AO – Middle-East), Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS - USA), Brazilian Spine Society (BSS), Brazilian Neurosurgical Society (SBN), Brazilian Academy of Neurosurgery (ABNc), Neurosurgical Society of Mato Grosso (vice-president 2013-2016 – Brazil), Saudi Association of Neurological Surgery (SANS - KSA) and Pan-Arab Spine Society (PASS). He is also an Academic Editor (Spinal Surgery Section) of the Journal “Medicine” (indexed at Pubmed-USA) and has also published many articles and book chapters.
